FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) is a hair transplantation procedure that replaces lost or thinning hair by taking healthy follicles from the donor area of the head (typically the back and sides) and transplanting them to a thinned area of the head, such as the hairline. FUE is a minimally invasive hair restoration option that requires skill and precision, achieving the best and most natural results.
FUE hair transplantation is performed by extracting naturally occurring groups of one to four hairs and transplanting them to the recipient area of the scalp, typically the bald area.
Our surgeons will first work to extract a series of grafts, typically consisting of one to four hair strands. These hair groups are usually taken from the sides or back of the head using a special extraction tool less than 1mm in diameter. These follicles are then transferred to the recipient area of the scalp and implanted using a powerful stereo microscope.
To ensure that the newly transplanted hair blends perfectly and resembles a natural hairstyle, we take great care to implant the hairs at the correct angle, mimicking how natural hair would grow.
The difference between FUE and FUT is that during Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT), the surgeon removes an entire strip of donor skin from the back of the head and extracts hair follicles from this strip. However, in FUE, hair follicles are individually taken directly from the scalp.
In FUT, the entire strip of hair is harvested at once and then divided into individual follicles. This leaves a very noticeable and prominent linear scar across the back of the head.
During FUE, groups of one to four hairs are individually removed from the scalp and transplanted to the new area of the scalp, attempting to mimic the pattern of the growing hair there. This leaves very little or no visible scarring on the scalp.
Regarding recovery time, there is also a noticeable difference between FUE and FUT. In FUE hair transplants, bleeding is minimal, and recovery is usually complete within seven days with almost no side effects. However, since an entire strip of the scalp is excised during FUT, it usually takes weeks for the scars to heal.
The results of FUE hair transplantation are far superior to FUT hair transplantation results, providing a high-quality, natural look to the hair.
It can be difficult to know if FUE hair transplantation is right for you, or even if you are a good candidate for FUE hair transplantation. One of the things you need is healthy hair growth in the back and sides of the head to serve as a donor area for the follicles to be harvested. Other factors such as hair color, texture, and waviness or curliness can also affect the cosmetic outcome.
The fastest way to find out if FUE is right for you is to make an appointment at our hair transplant clinic in Istanbul. We can help you with any questions and determine if you would be a good candidate for FUE. During your consultation, we will also be able to tell you the details of your surgery, such as the amount of grafts you need, how long the surgery will take, and the cost of your treatment.
